Unsecured medical loans provided for all kinds of treatments and medical procedures are a growth industry, with demand from patients increasing and loan companies offering ever more dedicated products for would-be medical patients.

People seeking medical loans, especially unsecured medical loans, come from all walks of life and are in a wide variety of social circumstances, which is why the market is becoming increasingly competitive. However, the general credit market at the time of writing has been looking shaky for some time, so lenders may be tightening their belts a little, making their lowest rate, even interest free, loans ever harder to qualify for.

Some people seek unsecured medical loans for general medical procedures, usually when uninsured or if their particular medical insurance policy does not cover the required treatment. Often people seeking medical loans are doing so to fund alternative or complementary medical treatments that their insurance policy may be unable to cover.

At the other end of the scale you have patients seeking medical loans to fund cosmetic surgery, again many loan companies will offer specialist packages for this type of medical loan, or general finance companies may offer dedicated packages for these types of medical loans.

As always, our only and best advice is to seek independent, qualified financial advice before entering into any medical loans, make sure you shop around, and consider what is right for you. People seeking loans for medical needs could be vulnerable and open to suggestion and persuasion, so err on the side of caution and if you’re unsure of anything, seek professional advice.

Medical loans of this nature are a highly competitive and extremely complex area, we can only begin to touch on the basics in this brief overview of financing that could be available to you either starting out or expanding your medical practice. Our best advice, as always, is seek professional guidance from a fully qualified financial advisor, in particular one who has experience within the field of medical loans and financing.

This form of unsecured medical loans appears to be an increasingly competitive market. There are many loan companies who specialise in unsecured lending to medical practitioners, who will offer attractive terms and competitive loan rates when jostling for your business. As with all types of borrowing and lending, it really does pay to shop around and seek as much independent, qualified advice as possible for entering into any loan agreement.

If you are starting out as a medical practitioner, you may have the toughest time of all securing finance for your dream practice. This is where it pays to have good strong advice, and very well kept accounts. Your accounting should be up to date and well organized, and it is accepted that you should be able to present a good case to any potential lender for your future projections, business and financial projections. You should be able to show potential lenders that you will be a good customer, who is organized and aware and confident of how you will repay the money you are asking the institution to lend to you. As competitive as the lending markets may be, always assume that you too are competing with others for the medical loan you are trying to secure, make your proposal as attractive as possible to lenders.

In the US you should probably seek advice not only from qualified financial advisors, it could pay to contact your state medical society, as they may have financing packages designed to help young professions establish themselves.

There are, of course, different forms of practice medical loans, you have start up loans, which of course are unsecured medical loans, then you have a range or more specialized medical loans for equipment, property and so on. It really is a very complex area and a real minefield. We hope to go into more details here at <a href="http://medicalloanscentral.com" title-"Medical Loans">Medical Loans Central in the future, but in the meanwhile the best advice, as always, is seek the best advice you can, be cautious with your borrowing and shop around.

It seems that many individuals in the UK with special care needs or disabilities may be entitled to medical loans from the NHS. These medical loans are neither secured medical loans or unsecured medical loans in the financial sense, but loans of certain special nursing equipment. The logic behind these schemes is to allow patients to receive proper care and treatment at home, rather than having to be admitted to hospital.

Usually, the provision of loaned medical equipment is based on the potential for such a loan being clinically effective, and is not based on financial situations of the applicant. The only exception tends to be those patients who are cared for in private nursing homes.

We have been frustratingly unable to find much information about these schemes in general, a good port of call could be the governments own direct.gov website, however information seems scant, we will investigate further, and if you can assist please feel free to get in touch.

Medical Loans Services can often provide a wide range of equipment, from large expensive items such as specialist electric beds to smaller every items such as commodes, for example we discovered the Gwent Heathcare trust offer items including:

Specialist electric profiling beds

Variable height hospital beds

Pressure reducing and pressure relieving mattresses

Pressure reducing and pressure cushions

Suction machines (excluding consumables e.g. tubing and filters

Commodes

Wheelchairs

Unibeds

Mattress elevators

Bed cradles

Cot Sides

Cot Side Bumpers

You can be referred to the loan service by any of the following; District Nurses, Discharge liaison Nurses, Hospital Occupational Therapists, Community Paediatric Nurses, Community Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists from Learning Disability Teams, Community Psychiatric Nurses

For details on this type of Medical Loans, we suggest your first port of call be your local primary care trust, who should be able to point you in the right direction for help.

You local branch of the British Red Cross may also be able to help, so it may be worth also contacting them for advice.

Through scrabbling around online we’ve found a number of sites offering pieces of advice and information for medical students looking for loans to help them through medical school.

We’ve compiled a brief list of them below which we think provides a concise summary of things to look out for, and a few basic dos and don’ts. This list is not supposed to form a complete check list of things to do before you apply, the key thing is always, always seek qualified, preferably independent advice before entering into any loan agreement.

Always seek guidance from your counsellor or financial aid, refer to them if you’re unsure of anything at any stage of your application. Your parents or guardians should also be involved in the whole process if possible, especially to assist you with questions you will face regarding your expected family contribution (EFC), income and so on.

Another piece of advice nobody could argue with to plan ahead. You may complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after January 1st, before you have graduated. If you do complete the FAFSA form early, ensure it is for the educational year for which you are seeking financial aid. Even before this stage you can get organized, have your financial information up to date, accurate and complete, including all income streams and tax information.

Shop around, do your research and compare the market. Not all loans are the same, sometimes the credit schemes with the most attractive headline rates or repayment schemes may not be the best overall package for you and your individual circumstances. This is a BIG decision, do not rush into it. Research is vital, look at all the different types of medical loans on the market and take time, again, seek advice if you’re unsure of anything.

Educate yourself on the types of loans and see which one fits your needs the best, including understanding the pros and cons of private and federal medical loans, and the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans.

Be frugal, try to minimize your debt and not borrow more than is really necessary, this is not a free lunch and you will have to pay this money back, with interest! Spending your loan money on anything other than educational needs could be seen as fraudulent and you could be committing a criminal offense. Investigate grants and scholarships as other means of funding, you may be pleasantly surprized what you quality for.

The devil is in the detail so they say, always check the fine print on any loan agreement so you go into it with your eyes wide open and fully aware of the terms and conditions. Again, this can be confusing so do seek advice if unsure. Check for any early settlement penalties, if you find yourself in a position to clear your debt early and save on interest, you don’t want to be penalized for doing so.

Generally speaking, use your subsidized loan allowance before unsubsidized, the interest in subsidized loans is subsidized by the government during the duration of your education. For this same reason, you should pay interest on unsubsidized loans while you are still in school, if at all possible.

Consolidate your loans, and if possible do so while you are still in your grace period. This may allow you to lock-in at a lower rate than when your grace period is over.

Now the obvious, but it must be said. Meet your monthly payments, pay on time. Repaying your debts should be the top of any financial agenda, if you do not you may suffer penalties or even default on your loan. Not smart. If you find yourself unable to meet your repayments, seek advice and contact your lender right away.

Keep up to date with your financial health and account balances at all times, actually read your statements when they arrive. If you have any spare money at any time in your student life, consider paying off a little extra on your repayments, rather than treating yourself to an extra cup of coffee.

We hope this list of ten tips is of use to you, it is by no means intended as a holy grail, and you should seek as much independent qualified advice as you can get your hands on. That’s the most important thing, whatever you read online, even here at Medial Loans Central can only be taken as a rough guide or some pointers you may find helpful. Keep organized and get help from as many sources as possible.

Before seeking out a private loan source, the first port of call for the majority of medical students are one of the available federal loan programs.

The largest medical loan programs are best known by their abbreviated names of FFELP (Federal Family Educational Loan Program) and FDLP (William D Ford Federal Direct Loan Program).

FFELP medical loans can be applied for at many private banks, through credit unions and dedicated educational finance companies. You may find your school will endorse a specific source for your medical loan, but you are at liberty to apply for your medical student loans from any institution, it is ALWAYS prudent to shop around before entering into any financial agreements!

Dedicated FFELP loans are very attractive for medical students for many reasons, including lower interest rates in comparison to many other loan types, interest repayments that may be funded by the federal government during your time in education, you may even be able to defer loan repayments until in employment, longer repayment periods and the possibility of more flexible credit status requirements.

FDLP medical loans are the less common of these two options, but many schools do participate in these programs. With FDLP medical loans the terms are generally very similar to FFELP loans, however you’re actually borrowing from the US Dept of Education rather than private institutions.

Whatever type of medical loan interests you, we’re confident we’ll have something of interest for you here at Medical Loans Central.

We will be looking into medical loans for student, practitioners and patients alike, we hope to be helpful to all people interested in loans relating to the medical profession, be it those serving in the profession or those receiving treatment.

All medical loans can first of all be broken down into two kinds of lending, unsecured medical loans, and secured medical loans. Most visitors to this site will be interested in the former, unsecured medical loans. Secured medical loans rely on the lender having the security of collateral being provided by you that the lending institution may sell in the event of you defaulting on the loan agreement (if you default, it basically means you are unable to make repayments on your loan). Secured loans by their nature tend to be for larger sums of money, where the risk to the lender is greater. The most familiar form of secured lending is mortgages.

Unsecured medical loans, unsurprisingly, require no physical security or collateral to be provided by the loan applicant, these loans are typically for smaller amounts, outside of the medical profession the most common types of unsecured lending would probably be credit card and auto loans. Most medical student loans would be unsecured loans. Unsecured loans will often carry a higher interest charge than secured loans, partially because of the smaller amount loaned and in part due to the higher risk to the lender.

There are a number of providers who specialise in medical loans, be they loans to people and companies already operating in the medical profession, or loans to would be members of the medical profession by way of medical school loans, or medical student loans, depending on your chosen terminology. Student loans and grants available for medical students are often encouraged by the potential for earnings once a student is fully qualified in their chosen field of the medical profession, and the demand for medical professionals, lenders may be more confident of the ability of a medical student to repay their loan once in the working market.
